Mastopexy (Breast Lift) in Columbus, Ohio
Over the years, factors such as gravity, pregnancy, and nursing take their toll on women’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, breasts often lose their shape and firmness. As a result, they begin to sag. A mastopexy, or breast lift in Columbus, is the surgical procedure to reshape and raise sagging breasts.
Why have a mastopexy?
- To lift the breasts to a higher position
- To reduce the size of the areoloa, the lighter skin around the nipple
- To remove excess skin from the breasts
- To better fit into a bra
- To have the option of not wearing a bra
Procedure:
The techniques for mastopexy surgery vary depending on a number of factors. There are basically two types of mastopexy or breast lift in Columbus. In the first, an anchor-shaped incision follows the natural curve of the breast. This incision outlines the area from which breast skin is removed and defines the new location for the nipple. Sutures are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending down from the nipple, and along the crease of the breast. The second technique, the vertical mastopexy, is newer. Its incisions run around the areola and extend in a vertical line down from the nipple. The vertical technique avoids an incision along the natural crease of the breast.

After your exam, Dr. Sullivan will be able to give you the approximate size and shape of your post-operative breasts, as well as the position of your nipple and areola.
Post-Op Results:
Dr. Sullivan will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible; however, you need to be aware that you will have some type of scarring following a mastopexy. The location of the scarring will depend on the technique used. The extensiveness of your scarring will depend on the condition of your skin and other factors you will discuss during your consultation. The scars are normally placed so that you can wear lower-cut clothing.
