Capsule Contracture & Capsulectomy in Columbus, Ohio
Your body’s natural reaction to a breast implant (or any foreign object placed in your body) is to form a lining of your own tissue, called a capsule, around the implant. This is a body’s normal reaction and is to be expected. In some cases, however, the capsule thickens and therefore, over time, one or both of your breasts (if both were augmented) can feel hardened.
Why have a capsulectomy in Columbus?
- Your breast implant feels firm
- Your breast implant looks hard
- Your breast shape is distorted
- You are experiencing breast pain and discomfort
If any of these conditions apply to you, a capsulectomy may help. All of your individual pre- and post-operative needs will be discussed with our team of nurses during your comprehensive pre-operative appointment.
Procedure:
Using the original incision, Dr. Sullivan surgically removes the entire capsule from around the breast implants by making slight scores in the capsule. She then removes your existing implants and replaces them with new breast implants.
Post-Op Results:
Following surgery, you will be required to wear a surgical or sports bra for a few weeks. If your original implants were placed below the muscle, the recovery from a capsulectomy in Columbus is more comfortable than your original breast augmentation surgery because the pocket in your muscle was already created.
Most women are able to return to work after one week and resume exercise after four weeks. After a few months following surgery, your breasts will begin to feel and look more natural.
