The weekend recovery facelift was proposed as a revolutionary advancement to tighten the skin of your lower face. In plastic surgery circles, this is not an accepted surgical advancement. Many of the advertised weekend recovery lifts are a modification of a procedure that was performed nearly a decade ago and abandoned because the results were not natural-appearing and did not last. Dr. Sullivan does not perform nor does he recommend any weekend facelift procedure as a viable option for face lifting.

The thread lift also falls into this weekend recovery category. It was invented in 1999 by Russian cosmetic surgeon Dr. Marlen Sulamanidze. The skin in this procedure is pulled tight by using aptos threads. The threads are similar to high-test fishing lines with barbs. Once inserted under the skin, the barbs can be used to elevate the skin and soft tissue.

Dr. Sullivan has seen this procedure performed several times in the laboratory and does not advocate this procedure for a number of reasons. The skin and soft tissue are pulled, resulting in unnatural gathering and puckering. Since this is a new procedure, there is no long term data available about the aptos threads. Recent evidence suggests the threads can become infected and extrude through the skin. Most surgeons have now abandoned this procedure.
