Submental Liposuction in Columbus, Ohio
Excess fat under the chin is very common; in fact, many people may even inherit this condition. This doesn’t have to be a double chin; it can simply appear as a puffy or drooping area of localized fat and excess skin. Oftentimes, this condition makes a person look unfairly overweight by obscuring the jawline.
Why have submental liposuction?
Submental liposuction is a procedure in which a small tube called a cannula (about the size of a cocktail straw) and suction are used to remove excess fatty tissue located underneath your chin. If you have unwanted fat under your chin, this procedure can help you. During your consultation, Dr. Sullivan will determine if this procedure will best address your concerns.
Procedure:
Highlighting the jawline by submental liposuction may be done as an isolated procedure or in combination with a lower facelift or chin augmentation surgery. Dr. Michael Sullivan makes an inconspicuous incision just under your chin, and then he uses liposuction to remove the excess fatty cells. In some cases, the VASER® ultrasound wand is used to treat and liquefy the fat prior to its removal. This often results in better sculpting of the neck tissue. The incision is virtually invisible when fully healed, as there is often a fold or crease at the location where he places the incision.
Post-Op Results:
The amount of improvement varies slightly for each patient, but you can expect to see a marked improvement after the procedure. There may be some swelling right after the surgery, but it subsides quickly.
Submental liposuction will help you get rid of a double chin, but it will not improve any jowling you may have. Oftentimes, submental liposuction is used to enhance the results of a lower facelift.
The specific risks and possible complications as they relate to the submental liposuction procedure will be discussed at your initial consultation.
